A thesis or dissertation is a document submitted in support of candidature for an academic degree or professional qualification presenting the author's research and findings.

Follow these steps to successfully upload your thesis:
Create a New Item
Click on the “+Create a new item” button or drag and drop your file into the browser.

Insert a Title*
Provide a clear and descriptive title for your work.
Select the Item Type*
Select ‘Thesis’ as item type. Figshare accepts any file type and can preview more than 1,200 file extensions in the browser.
Add Authors*
Include all relevant authors. You can rearrange their order or remove yourself if uploading on someone else’s behalf. Search by email or ORCID if the author has synced their ORCID to Figshare.
To add an author without a Figshare account, select "Add author details" and enter their name, email (optional), and ORCID (optional).
Select a Category*
You can choose more than one and either select from the drop-down menu or search for your subject area. For more accurate classification, you can use the Fields of Research (FoR) Classification
spreadsheet to find the precise subject area related to your field of study. Please note that Manara includes only main and subcategories.

If you can’t find exactly what you’re looking for, we recommend finding the best option and getting more specific in the Keywords section.
Add Keywords*
Include specific keywords to enhance discoverability. Add at least 3-5 keywords. Hit enter after each keyword to add more.
Write a Description*
Provide a detailed description about your project. In most cases, the abstract is sufficient.
Add Funding Information
When typing your funder information, Figshare will search the Dimensions database for matching funders. You can hyperlink the connection between your research and the funder. For funders not in Dimensions, simply type the information without selecting from the dropdown.
Link Related Research Materials
Use the "Related Materials" section to add linkages to other research objects. Select relation types from DataCite standards
, such as "IsSupplementTo" or "IsReferencedBy."
Licence*
Select a license. This will determine how others can reuse your data. You can choose from a number of licenses
based on your reuse requirements. For further details, please refer to the Manara Licenses section in the guidelines.
Language
Select the thesis language from the menu. If the thesis is written in more than one language, list all the languages included.
Publisher
n/a
Publication Year*
Select the year the thesis was awarded from the drop-down menu. Ensure it corresponds to the year shown on the thesis title page.
License Statement*
This is a free-text license statement field to cover additional permissions or restrictions.
Example:
“© The author. The author has granted HBKU and Qatar Foundation a non-exclusive, worldwide, perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free license to reproduce, display and distribute the manuscript in whole or in part in any form to be posted in digital or print format and made available to the public at no charge. Unless otherwise specified in the copyright statement or the metadata, all rights are reserved by the copyright holder. For permission to reuse content, please contact the author.”
Institution affiliated with*
From the drop-down menu, first select the university, then choose the appropriate college or department within that University. For departments or programs, enter them in Field 27 (department/program). If you're selecting a research and development (R&D) department within an enterprise, choose the corresponding company name from the drop-down menu.
Methodology
A description of how the data were collected, generated or derived, and methods of analysis.
Methodology URL
If there is a website that contains more information about the methodology, then the Uniform Resource Locator (URL) should be included.
Temporal coverage
Any particular time period(s) covered by this research output (if applicable). For example, a dataset about road traffic in Doha between 2012-2022 should have temporal coverage set to 2012-01-01/2022-12-31, where the dates are written in YYYY-MM-DD format, and the date range is denoted by start and end date separated by / character.
Geographic coverage
Any geographical location(s) applicable to the research output. To reference mutiple geographic areas, please put each of them in a separate line. If possible, please put both names of relevant locations as well as geographic coordinates.
Related Publications
A related publication is any formally published document, which refers to this research output.
Related Datasets
Citation(s) for dataset(s) related to this research output, including the title and authors, and some unique identifier like DOI or URL. Please put every citation in a new line.
Alternative Title
If a thesis is written in two different languages, include the alternative title in the other language.
Degree Date*
Enter the awarded degree date, ensuring it matches the year indicated on the thesis title page.
Degree Type*
From the drop-down menu select the type of degree (e.g., Master's, PhD).
Advisors*
Provide the names of thesis advisor(s) involved.
Committee Members*
Provide the names of committee members involved in your thesis.
Department/Program*
Specify the department or program associated with the college and/or university.
Publish Your Item
Click on the button and your item will be sent to a review queue and will be reviewed accordingly before being published. A reviewer will contact you in the case that your item is not complete.
Embargo
Link the link on the right side of the page. Select a time period for the embargo; for permanent embargoes, select “permanent embargo” at the bottom of the dropdown menu. Choose whether the embargo is on the files only or on the entire content (files and metadata). Depending on how your institution has configured restricted publishing, you may see additional options for who can access the embargoed content. Create a Private Link
Click the link - a private link can be sent via email and the recipient can access the data without logging in or having a Figshare account. This feature was designed for blind peer review, so the page that a private sharing link leads to is anonymised - it does not include the Author field or any non-Figshare branding. It is important to note that these links expire after three years and should not be cited in publications. For step-by-step guidance, follow the instructional video: How to generate a private link.
Manage identifiers
Click the link and from Manage identifiers window select
option and enter and enter a Digital Object Identifier (DOI)
received as part from the publication process in the text input field (e.g. 10.3390/s20143931).
If the thesis has not been previously published by any publisher or other open access repository, please follow the step-by-step instructions provided in the instructional video: How to reserve a DOI.
Edit the Timeline
Click the link and end enter “Online Publication date” - The original date this work appeared in any context online. This date is mandatory. If no date is added, the initial posted date will be used; and “Publication date” - The initial date this item was first formally published. This date is optional. If this date is not provided, it will not be displayed publicly. For step-by-step guidance, follow the instructional video: How to edit an Item’s timeline.
Add a Custom Thumbnail (optional)
Click the link and upload a thumbnail image that will be displayed in search results. This is purely cosmetic and can help your research stand out.
Check publisher Open Access Policy
Click the link and use the drop-down menu to select a journal or publisher to view their Open Access policy. You can explore various policies to better understand their guidelines and requirements for publication.
